If you’re new to ChatGPT Projects, this walkthrough shows the setup that makes repeat work easier.

The core idea: keep your chats, files, and custom instructions together in one place. When a task stretches across multiple conversations, it’s easy to lose the brief or forget the context you already set. Projects help organize that.

In this video, you’ll see how to:

• create a new project • add project instructions • choose memory settings • give the project access to your files • add sources from upload, Drive, or Slack • start a chat inside the project

You’ll also see what happens next: ask for launch headlines, and ChatGPT can respond with options that cite the brief, so you have a clearer starting point to build from.

If you’ve been using separate chats for every step, this is a practical way to keep context, source material, and outputs connected.

How to use ChatGPT Projects and Image: a simple first-time walkthrough

A practical way to keep work organized in ChatGPT

If your work in ChatGPT often spreads across multiple chats, it’s easy for the original brief, supporting files, and response preferences to get separated.

This video walks through a simple workflow for using ChatGPT Projects to keep those pieces together in one place. It’s designed for first-time users who want to understand what Projects do, how to set one up, and how to start using sources inside a project.

What the video covers

The walkthrough starts with the core use case: ChatGPT Projects can keep your chats, files, and custom instructions together.

From there, it shows the basic setup step by step:

  • open Projects
  • click New
  • name your project
  • create the project
  • add instructions in project settings
  • choose memory settings

The video also explains how these controls shape responses. Instructions provide context for the project, memory affects what carries over, and library access lets the project use your files.

How to add sources and start working

Once the project is set up, the next step is adding source material.

In the video, that means switching to Sources and adding a brief. The brief can be added by upload, Drive, or Slack. After that, you can start a chat directly inside the project.

This matters because it gives ChatGPT access to the context and materials you want it to use, instead of relying on a separate chat with missing background.

What the result looks like

To show the workflow in action, the video asks ChatGPT for launch headlines. ChatGPT returns options that cite the brief, giving you a starting point that is easier to review and build on.

For anyone learning the feature for the first time, this is the key takeaway: set the context once, add your sources, and work inside the project so your materials and outputs stay connected.

If you want a clear introduction to ChatGPT Projects and how to use sources in a real workflow, watch the video and try the steps yourself: create a project, add a source, and start your first chat.
