Make social cuts, GIFs and captions
Turn a narrated demo video or a story video into square and vertical cuts, a 30-second highlight, a GIF, a thumbnail and caption files.
One finished video can feed every channel you post to. From the Formats tab, TurtleScene makes square and vertical versions for social feeds, a short highlight, a GIF for emails and docs, a thumbnail, and caption files, all from the same narration. They're included with the video and don't use a credit.

Narrated demo videos can also make a Help article, and story videos can make Launch posts. See Help articles & launch posts.
Story videos in the launch film look (the look new stories are made in) get Vertical 9:16 and Highlight 9:16 too: each scene is laid out again for the tall frame, not shrunk. Older stories, made in the earlier look, have no vertical formats; they get a Square 1:1 version and a landscape Highlight (~30s).
Formats made on Free are 720p; on Starter and up they're 1080p.
How each format is made
- Vertical and square cuts of a narrated video put your screen in a rounded card on a dark canvas and follow the click: the card moves in on each step's button or field as it's used, and eases out to a wider view between steps. Above the card, the video's title opens the cut, then a step header shows your brand name, the title and where you are, for example 2/6 and the step's name. The intro and outro cards are left out.
- Captions on the cuts are burned in as big phrases of a few words, timed to the narration, so viewers can follow along with the sound off. They move out of the way when a step is at the bottom of the screen.
- The square cut of a story video fits each scene into a square frame. A story in the launch film look lays each scene out again for the square (and for the vertical frame): type is re-flowed, screens sit in a rounded card that moves in on what's being shown, and big captions sit under it. A scene you've edited in chat is placed whole instead. In other stories, product screens are cropped around what's happening in them, designed scenes are scaled to fit, and captions go on top.
- The highlight keeps the first and last narrated lines, so it has a setup and a payoff, then adds the earliest lines in between until it reaches about 30 seconds.
- The GIF is up to 12 seconds of the highlight, 720 pixels wide, with no sound.
- The thumbnail for a narrated video is a frame from the video with the title on it. For a story video, it's a clean frame of the opening scene, since story scenes are already designed.
- Captions follow the narration line by line. Upload them alongside the video on YouTube, LinkedIn or your own player.
The cuts and thumbnail use your workspace's brand colour, set in Brand & player, and your product name from Product brain (or the workspace name if there isn't one).
Generate formats for a narrated video
Formats are made from the rendered MP4, so render the video first. See Render, download & share.
- In the sidebar, click Library, then open your video from the Demo videos tab.
- In the left rail, click Formats.
- Under Formats, tick the ones you want. All are ticked to start with.
- Click Generate (the button shows how many formats you picked, for example Generate 8 formats).
- Wait while Latest pack shows progress, for example Making Square 1:1…. You can leave the page and come back.
Generate formats for a story video
- Open the story video from the Library.
- In the right-hand panel, click the Formats tab.
- Tick the formats you want and click Generate.
The story video must have finished generating. TurtleScene renders it to a video first (1080p, or 720p on Free), then makes each format from that.
Story video formats play each scene's animation, as in the player, when Video is set to Motion (the default). Choose Still scenes above the format list to show each scene as one still image held for its narration instead. See Export & share.
Download your files
When a format is done, it appears under Latest pack with Ready, its length and file size. Videos and images show a preview.
- Click the file name button, for example square-1x1.mp4, to download it.
- The downloaded file name starts with your video's title, so files from different videos don't clash.
Download links last for an hour. If one stops working, reopen the Formats tab for fresh links.
If a format fails, it shows Failed with the reason. The other formats aren't affected. Generate again with just that format ticked, but download the others first (see the warning below).
Captions are also available for translated versions of a narrated video. Download them from the language's entry in the Languages section of the same tab.
When the video changes
A pack is made from the video as it was at that moment. If you change the video afterwards, the pack goes out of date and the tab says so:
- Narrated video: "The demo was re-rendered after this pack was made. Generate again to update it."
- Story video: "The story was edited after this pack was made. Generate again to update it."
Click Generate to make a fresh pack from the current video.
Each time you generate, the new pack replaces the whole previous one, including formats you didn't tick this time. Download anything you want to keep before you generate again.
Credits
Formats are included with the video. Generating them, or generating them again, doesn't use a credit. See Plans, credits & limits.
