Export & share
Share a story video with a link, embed it on your site, download it as an animated MP4, a GIF or a PDF, and make social formats and translated versions.
A finished story video can go out in several ways: a share link that plays it in the browser, an embed for your own site, a downloaded file, social formats built from it, and versions in other languages. Everything here starts from the story's page.
Share a link
- Open the story video.
- Click Share in the header. The button changes to Link copied.
- Paste the link wherever you need it.
The link opens a public page with the story's title and the player, with the animated scenes and narration. Anyone with the link can watch it without signing in. On Free, the player shows a small "Made with TurtleScene" mark in the corner; from Starter up it's hidden.
The link keeps pointing at the latest version, so edits you make afterwards (a rewritten line, a chat edit) show up for viewers without sending a new link.
The share page only works while the story is ready. If you delete the story, the link stops working.
Embed it on your site
- Click Embed. The Embed this story video window opens with a ready-made snippet.
- Click Copy.
- Paste the snippet into your site's HTML, where the video should appear.
The snippet embeds the share page in an 800 × 450 frame with rounded corners. Change the width and height in the snippet to fit your layout. The Preview link at the bottom of the window opens the same page in a new tab.
Download a file
- Click Export.
- Under Video, choose how the video is made:
- Motion (the default): every scene plays its own animation, as in the player, including the camera moving over your screens and any clips from your recording.
- Still scenes: each scene is shown as one still image for as long as its narration runs.
- Choose a format:
- MP4 Video: HD video with audio. Use it for YouTube, sales emails, or anywhere you upload a video file.
- GIF: animated, no audio. Use it in docs, READMEs and emails where video doesn't play.
- PDF Slides: one scene per page. Use it as a leave-behind or to review the storyboard.
- Wait while the button shows Exporting MP4… (or GIF, or PDF). The file downloads by itself when it's ready.
MP4 exports are 1080p on Starter and up, and 720p on Free. Story videos don't export in 4K on any plan; 4K exports are for clickable demos. GIFs are up to 800 pixels wide.
An export of a one-minute story usually takes 1 to 3 minutes. Motion takes longer when many scenes show product clips, and any export takes longer when others are waiting. You can keep editing while it works. The choice is saved with the story, so the Formats tab and translated versions use it too.
If a Motion export can't be made, TurtleScene makes the video with still scenes instead, so you still get your file. A message under Export tells you when that happened. Try again later for the motion version.
If an export fails, the reason appears under the Export button. Try again, and if it keeps failing, see Troubleshooting.
Make social formats and launch posts
Open the Formats tab in the right-hand panel to build versions of the story for other channels. For a story video you can make:
- Captions (SRT and WebVTT subtitle files)
- Square 1:1, the full video laid out for a square frame, with captions
- Highlight (~30s), a landscape cut of the key moments
- GIF preview, a silent loop
- Thumbnail, a 1280×720 cover image with the title
- Launch posts: a LinkedIn post, an X post and a short blog announcement
Stories in the launch film look, the look new stories are made in, also get Vertical 9:16 and Highlight 9:16, laid out for the tall frame. Older stories have no vertical formats. See Social cuts, GIFs and captions.
- Under Video, choose Motion or Still scenes, the same choice as in Export.
- Tick the formats you want.
- Click Generate 3 formats (the number matches what you ticked).
- Download each one from Latest pack when it shows Ready. For launch posts, click Copy Markdown.
With Motion, the square cut and the highlight show the scene animations too. A pack takes a few minutes, because the story is rendered more than once: in 16:9, laid out for the square frame and, in the launch film look, for the vertical frame.
Formats are included, and don't use credits. If you edit the story afterwards, or TurtleScene improves how story videos are rendered, the pack says so, and you can generate again to bring it up to date. Social cuts, GIFs & captions and Help articles & launch posts cover each format in detail.
Make a translated version
Translated versions are available on Starter and up.
A translated version is the same story with the narration and the text on every scene in another language, re-voiced and rendered as a new video, with the story's Motion or Still scenes choice. A translated story has no caption file. Your original story isn't changed.
- Open the Formats tab. Languages is at the top.
- Choose a language from Add a language….
- Click Translate. The language shows Translating & rendering… while it works.
- When it shows Ready, play it in the panel or download it with MP4.
You can translate into Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Indonesian, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified) and Arabic.
Each language uses one AI recording from your monthly allowance, because the whole video is re-voiced and re-rendered. If a translation fails, the credit is given back.
To redo a translation after editing the story, click the refresh icon (Redo from the current script) next to the language. Redoing a language uses another AI recording. To remove one, click the bin icon.
For how translation works on narrated videos, see Translated versions; for clickable demos, see Share & embed.
