Create a story video
Turn a recording, screenshots, a written brief or your documents into an animated story video with scenes and AI narration.
A story video is an animated explainer built around your product: designed scenes, on-screen text and an AI voiceover, rather than a straight walkthrough of your screen. Use one for launches, landing pages and announcements, where you want to tell viewers why something matters. Use a narrated video when they need to watch exactly how a flow works.
You can start a story video from four kinds of input: a new screen recording, a recording you already made, screenshots, or a written brief and documents.
Start from a recording or screenshots
- In the sidebar, click New capture.
- Choose how to bring in your product:
- Record screen to capture a flow now. See Record your screen.
- Upload screenshots to drop in images, then click Next. Drag them into the order the story should follow.
- Use a recording you already made to pick a stored recording. This option only appears once the workspace has recordings.
- On Choose an output, click Story video.
- Fill in Story settings and Look (described below), then click Generate story video.
You can also start from the Recordings page: next to any recording, click Story video to go straight to the settings.
Choose the story settings
- Title: the name in your library and on the share page. It starts as the recording's name.
- Context / intent (optional): one or two sentences on who the video is for and what it should achieve, for example which audience and which feature to end on. TurtleScene already watches your recording or reads your screenshots, but a sentence of intent makes the story noticeably sharper.
- Video type sets the narrative shape:
- Use Case: a problem, the solution, a feature walkthrough and the impact.
- Explainer: what it is, how it works and why it matters.
- Concept: a broad product vision, from the pain through the modules to proof. This is the default.
- Testimonial: framed around a customer's problem and results.
- Changelog: what's new, what it solves and a showcase of the feature.
- Tone: professional, playful, bold or minimal. The tone shapes the writing and also picks the narrator's delivery (for example, playful reads as energetic, minimal as calm), unless you've chosen a tone for the story itself. See Voices & pronunciation.
- Duration: 30s, 45s, 60s or 90s. Scenes stretch where the narration needs more time, so the final length can differ slightly.
Pick a design theme
A story made from a recording, new or stored, is made in the launch film look: your real screens shown large on a dark backdrop in your brand's colour, the camera moving in on each click as a cursor makes it, a short callout naming each action, and big animated headlines between them. Its colours come from your workspace's brand colour, your Brand Brain or the recording itself (only the recording, when it shows someone else's product).
Stories made from screenshots, a brief or documents are made in the same launch film look: each screenshot shown large with the camera moving in on what matters and a callout naming it, and big animated headlines, numbered steps and figures from your brief or document. Nothing is invented: no mock screens, charts or logos. Their colours come from your brand colour or Brand Brain, and when there is none, from the theme you choose in the wizard.
The Theme and Background choices below set the colours of a story when your workspace has no brand colour, and shape any story that can't be made in the launch film look.
Under Look, choose a Theme and a Background.
- Match product (the default) takes colours, fonts and your logo from the recording or screenshots when the video is generated, so the scenes look like your product.
- Brand uses the colours and fonts from your Product brain. It is greyed out until the Brand Brain has found brand colours.
- Dark, Light, Midnight, Forest, Ember, Mono and Editorial are fixed palettes. Hover over one to see what it's like.
Background sets the backdrop pattern behind every scene, independent of the palette: Soft mesh, Grid, Dot matrix, Aurora, Rings, Spotlight or Flat.
For any theme except Match product, click Customize to set the five Colors (Background, Text, Primary, Secondary, Accent) and the Heading and Body fonts by name.
If you recorded someone else's product (a how-to for a tool you use, say), TurtleScene notices that it isn't the product in your Brand Brain and leaves out your brand name and logo for that story.
Start from a brief or documents
Use this when you don't have a recording: a launch doc, a PRD, a slide deck or just a paragraph describing the video.
- In the sidebar, click New capture, then choose Start from anything.
- Type into Describe your video, drop files, or both. Accepted files are PDF, DOCX, PPTX, MD and TXT documents and PNG, JPG and WebP images, up to 30 files and 50 MB in total.
- Click Continue. TurtleScene reads everything and shows Analysis complete: the document type it detected, the images it tagged and a Suggested storyline of scenes.
- Click Continue, or Re-upload to change your files.
- Answer Who's watching this? and What should they do after watching?. Both are pre-filled from your document. Open Anything else? (optional) to add direction, such as a feature to emphasise.
- Under Video theme, choose Brand, Dark or Light, and click Customize if you want to adjust colours and fonts.
- Click Generate video, or click Skip — let AI decide to keep the pre-filled answers.
On this path the video type, tone and length are chosen for you from the kind of document you uploaded.
What happens while it generates
After you click generate, the story's page shows its progress in four stages:
- Understanding your product: watching the recording (or reading the screenshots) and matching its design and logo.
- Storyboard: planning the scenes and designing each one.
- Voiceover: recording the narration for every scene.
- Finalizing: fitting each scene's length to its narration.
Generation runs in the background, so you can close the tab or keep working. You get an email when the video is ready, or if it couldn't be generated. Finished stories appear in the Library under Story videos.
The first scene introduces the product and the last is a call to action. In a story from a recording, the camera follows each click on your real screens; in a story from screenshots, it moves in on the part of each screenshot the narration is about. TurtleScene only shows numbers and charts that come from your product, your recording or the context you gave it.
Credits
Each story video uses one AI recording from your monthly allowance:
- New recording: the recording's upload is what counts, and it covers the first demo or story you make from it.
- Stored recording: the first output made from a recording is included. Each further demo or story from the same recording uses one credit. The picker shows which applies before you continue.
- Screenshots, or a brief and documents: one credit when you start.
Formats you make from a finished story, such as social cuts and captions, are included. Each translated version uses one credit. See Plans, credits & limits for each plan's allowance.
