Record

Recordings library & reuse

Find every recording in your workspace, see what was made from each, and turn one into another demo or story without recording again.

Every screen recording you make, and every video you upload with Upload a video, is stored in your workspace. The Recordings page lists them all, shows what has been made from each, and lets you make another demo video or story video from any of them without recording again. Use it when you want a second output from the same flow, or when you saved a take to decide on later.

Open the Recordings page

In the sidebar, click Recordings. Recordings are listed newest first.

Each recording shows:

  • A preview you can play.
  • Its name, the date it was recorded and its length.
  • A bin icon to delete it (see Delete a recording).
  • Made from this: every demo video and story video made from it, each linking to its editor. A recording with no outputs yet says Nothing yet.
  • What the next output costs: Next output: included with this recording or Next output: uses 1 credit.
  • Two buttons, Demo video and Story video, to make something new from it.

Everyone in the workspace sees the same recordings and can make outputs from them.

To record something new from this page, click New recording. If the workspace has no recordings yet, click Record a flow. Both open the create wizard. See Record your screen.

Save a recording for later

You don't have to decide what to make as soon as you stop recording.

  1. After you click Stop in the recorder, click Save to Recordings. Or click Next, then Not now — save to Recordings on Choose an output.
  2. The Recordings page opens with your recording highlighted and the message Recording saved.

Saving uses one AI recording from your monthly allowance, and the first demo or story you make from the recording later is included in it.

Make another output from a recording

From the Recordings page:

  1. On the recording, click Demo video or Story video. The create wizard opens at the Configure step with the recording already chosen.
  2. For a demo video, enter a Demo title, choose a Demo kind, optionally add Context, and click Create demo. The editor opens and analyses the recording again. See Create a narrated video.
  3. For a story video, fill in the story settings and click Generate story video. See Create a story video.

You can also start from the create wizard:

  1. In the sidebar, click New capture.
  2. Click Use a recording you already made. This option appears once the workspace has at least one recording.
  3. Click a recording to select it, then click Next. With more than six recordings, a Search recordings box helps you find one by name.
  4. On Choose an output, check the line under the recording's name. It says this output is included with the recording or this output uses 1 credit.
  5. Click Demo video + interactive demo or Story video, then set it up as usual.
Tip

Give each new output its own title. The demo title starts with the recording's name, which may describe the first output rather than this one.

Make a clickable demo from a recording

The Recordings page has buttons for demo videos and story videos, not clickable demos. A clickable demo is built from a demo video's steps: open the demo video from Made from this, then click Make interactive demo in the editor. This doesn't use a credit. See From a recording.

What reuse costs

  • The credit used when the recording was uploaded covers the recording and the first demo video or story video made from it.
  • Each further demo video or story video from the same recording uses one credit, because the analysis, script and voiceover run again.
  • Everything made from an output is included: its formats, cuts, re-renders, the clickable demo and the help article.
  • If making the new output fails, its credit is given back.
  • If every output made from a recording has been deleted, the next one is included again.

The Recordings page and the wizard show which applies before you start, and the server decides from what already exists. See Plans, credits & limits.

Delete outputs made from a recording

Demo videos and story videos are deleted from the Library, not the Recordings page.

  1. In the sidebar, click Library.
  2. On the item, open the actions menu and click Delete.
  3. Click Delete to confirm. This removes the item and everything generated from it: the video, the formats and its share links.

Deleting an output doesn't delete the recording it came from, and doesn't give back the credit it used. The recording stays on the Recordings page, and once all its outputs are gone its next output is included again.

Warning

Deleting an output can't be undone. Anyone with its share link loses access.

Delete a recording

Recordings are stored privately in your workspace until you delete them. Anyone in the workspace can delete one.

  1. In the sidebar, click Recordings.
  2. On the recording, click the bin icon next to its name. The Delete recording dialog opens.
  3. Read what it says about outputs: it lists how many demo videos and story videos were made from the recording.
  4. Click Delete recording to confirm. The video file is removed from storage and the recording leaves the page.

What was made from the recording stays. You can still watch, share and download its demo videos, story videos and clickable demos, make formats from a finished video, and edit the text. Anything that needs the original recording again stops working, and the editor says so:

  • re-rendering a demo video (Re-render), or rendering it for the first time;
  • detecting the steps again, or rewriting one step from its screen;
  • Find waits to cut;
  • a new language version of a demo video;
  • building or rebuilding the clickable demo with Make interactive demo;
  • Use what I said while recording.

A story video made from a deleted recording can still be edited and exported. If you make a new version of it, that version is built from the saved key frames, without the short screen clips.

Deleting a recording doesn't give back the credit it used.

Warning

Deleting a recording can't be undone. Render the demo video first if you might want it, since an unrendered demo can't be rendered afterwards.
